Tools for Creating Graphical Views of DTDs or XML Schemas?

June 9, 2004

Do any of you use tools to create graphical or tree views of XML? See, for an example, the Elm Tree Structure in this example from the W3C:

http://www.w3.org/XML/1998/06/xmlspec-report-19980910.htm#AEN664

I have used DTD2html in the past, which creates a nice HTML tree view, but something like the Elm Tree would be better.

If you have any ideas, post here or email me at btrippe@nmpub.com.

Thanks!

Bill

I use XMLSpy from Altova. This product has a great view of the XML and an even better way to view XSD files.

I would recommend that you create your links in your blogs as hyperlinks so that readers can just click on your links.

Hello Egon,

Thanks for your post. I corrected the link as you suggested. I use XMLSpy as well, and have used the grid view for XML files and DTDs and have found it helpful. I will look at the display for XSDs as well, though I am specifically looking for a more graphical view of DTDs as shown in the link.

Thanks again,

Bill

Good to see that I could help. I use macs for most of my development and I wish that there was a version of XMLSpy for the mac but I have not found anything yet, maybe I should develop it :) I will put it on the list of porjects that I "plan" on completing.
