A Few Thoughts
December 17, 2004
I have been very busy with work, so haven’t been posting much. A few thoughts, though:
- The ASP model for content management makes a lot of sense for many organizations, especially where IT staffing is at a low. I have been spending some time lately looking at Catalog Navigator, an ASP catalog solution from Thomas Industrial Network. It looks like a very cost-effective solution for small- and mid-sized manufacturers and distributors.
- Adobe seemed to finish the year with some great numbers. This was a big year for them, as they are really emphasizing their enterprise products. It’s interesting they seemed to have performed so well.
- Funny, I was such a skeptic about compliance and its impact on content management, now everyone is talking about. But what are people actually buying, and what are they doing with the technology?
- Writing for XML.com, Kendall Clark made a great point that the long era of XML standards making is drawing to a close. Now what?
- XSL-FO seems to have legs, doesn’t it?
- Idiom will be hosting a webinar to discuss DITA and globalization. I will be speaking along with Iinformation Builders Inc (IBI) documentation services director Frances Gambino. Click here for more information and to register.
