March Madness

March 24, 2006

I am not a huge college basketball fan, but I like the tournament, and am rooting for Boston College. I am watching the game now, and understand why so many people think Billy Packer is an idiot. The BC-Villanova game is happening right in front of him, but he seems to be commenting on a game he watched ten years ago.

March Madness is what is wrong with America, today. It is a full step below a car dealership commercial; with screamers, and streamers, and grown men dressed as megalocephalic cowboys, making farting gestures at the officials.
But what defines this nefarious institution, is it's predilection to preempt CSI Miami. When I turn on my door sized television and tune in on Saturday nights, I expect to be transported into a Fantastic Five mission through a crack head's cerebellum. I expect to be exanguinated out the exit wound of a .38 Special, next to all my buddy buddy CAD red blood cells. Instead, I am whacked upside the head by a row of bare chested Boston College frat brothers who have spelled out, "GO ERGLES!" with a tube of J.Lo's lipstick, or regurgitated strawberry Jello shots, I can't tell which. I consider whether tommorrow's leaders can't spell, or whether the fat guy in the middle sweats enough to put Letter Man out of business. Either way, these boys do not know what a crowd stunt is. They are indoors and in heat.
If you want to see a devoted fan club, watch a Green Bay Packers game. At thirty below in an outdoor stadium, it takes a lot more pride to wait for the jumbotron to catch your "GO TERM!" stunt. And you know that the "A" looks like an "R", only because the fat guy in the middle's left man-breast fell off from frostbite. Now THAT'S something I'd like to experience from the inside out on tv. But I guess I'll have to wait for "CSI - Ottowa" to come out.
Meanwhile, I'll stick to my CSI - Miami; and you keep your Packer complaints to yourself, Mr. Trippe.

Hey Kev,

Are you saying you like Billy Packer? Or are you just saying there isn't enough gore in March Madness?
