Drupal with Ad Serving and Web Analytics

December 14, 2006

A client is interested in adopting Drupal, but is simultaneously looking at Web analytics and ad serving software, mainly commercial packages. I would like to put together a snapshot of some Drupal sites that use different analytics and ad serving packages, including Drupal modules. Would anyone be willing to share what they are currently using? You can post here or email me. Thanks.

At work at Network World, we're using Hitbox and Dart with Drupal.

In both cases, we had to do a bit of work to define the appropriate variables for the packages, mostly done through PHP variables we put at the top of various template pages, which are then added at the right point in the Hitbox or Dart code. Nothing incredibly hard, though (I'm no programmer).

At my offhours site, I've used PHPAdsNew, Google AdSense and Burst Media. There, it's more a question of just putting the code where you want (if you put them in a "block," you need to take out any line breaks; otherwise Drupal puts them in and possibly screws up the code). There's actually a Drupal module for AdSense; I haven't used that.

For stats, I've used both Mint and Google Analytics. Once you add the one line of code to your templates, they just work.
