SVG is Dead; Long Live SVG?
December 19, 2006
Every time I decide SVG has lost all of its traction, I read something like this that makes me at least consider that SVG still has legs.
From the article:
The NeuART II software works from these CDs, checking copyright and also making sure that the user has a valid copy of Adobe illustrator, and then using a JavaScript program converting the files into a standard vector graphic (SVG) format. The SVG images are stored on the users system and organized using the software, which works on Linux, Windows and Macintosh operating system computers.

Hello Stelt,
(Is that how to address you? Sorry if not!)
Thank you for your comment, and I agree completely that there are excellent applications out there.
The thing that discourages me is news like Adobe retiring the Adobe viewer. What do you make of that?

ASV is retired indeed, but available for download. It's a needed hiccup, to counter the SVG=ASV perception, and go beyond the SVG support of ASV.
SVG is browser-native on "anything but IE", which' use has already passed 50% in even several big non-geeky webstats.

SVG doesn't have marketing millions screaming at you, it's just used, no fuss. For example the Nintendo Wii was all over the news, but only svg.org mentioned that the Opera browser that comes with it does SVG.
